    THIS Saturday our neighborhood wide Attic Sale will return. This year's sale is expected to see some big crowds and a big day for resident sellers!

    ATTENDING & WHAT TO EXPECT:

    Over 45+ homes have already signed up to sell antiques, furniture (vintage and new), books, appliances, tools, paintings, clothing and much more all spread out over the 36 blocks of beautiful Boston-Edison, as well some of our neighboring streets. Each year, hundreds of visitors walk, ride and drive through our neighborhood to find the best deals for one day only (some sellers may also choose to sell on Sunday).

    SELLER REGISTRATION OPEN THRU SALE DAY:

    Participation cost is $25.00 per home and includes balloons and road sign. Registration continues through to the day of the event. Registrations not received by Tuesday, August 9 can not be guaranteed inclusion on printed maps and handouts.     Once you've registered you can pickup materials (balloons, sign, printed map) at 1211 Boston Blvd from 2-8 p.m. on Friday, August 12th. 

    MAPPING THE HOMES:

    The night before the event a digital Google map with the list of locations to find all of the attic sale goods will be available (and on our Facebook event page) for all to easily reference and use to navigate the day's sales.

    All attendees will be able to pick up maps and Boston-Edison merchandise at our Attic Sale Welcome Center at 1211 W Boston. Blvd.

    We are happy to welcome you to our community for the 2022 edition of our house concert series featuring three performances with world-class musicians across multiple genres. The concert series is presented by the Historic Boston-Edison Association and Michelle May, Music Director of the Sounds of Music House Concerts™ organization. The address for the concerts will be given following ticket purchase.

    IMPORTANT UPDATE: For the August 20 concert, the host homeowner has stated that masks are MANDATORY for attendance in the backyard. You will be provided with a mask if you arrive without one.  You may remove the mask only for eating and drinking.

    Marion Hayden Trio

    Born in Detroit, MI, a crucible of jazz, Marion Hayden is one of the nation’s finest proponents of the acoustic bass. Mentored by master trumpeter Marcus Belgrave, Hayden began performing jazz at the age of 15. She has performed with such diverse luminaries as Bobby McFerrin, Nancy Wilson, Geri Allen, Regina Carter, Steve Turre, Lester Bowie, David Allen Grier, James Carter, Dorothy Donegan, Joe Williams, Lionel Hampton, Frank Morgan, Jon Hendricks, Hank Jones, Bobby Hutcherson, Larry Willis, Vanessa Rubin, Sheila Jordan, Mulgrew Miller, Annie Ross and many others. She is a co-founder of the touring jazz ensemble Straight Ahead- the first all woman jazz ensemble signed to Atlantic Records. She is a member of the Detroit International Jazz Festival All-Star Ambassadors touring ensemble.

    Widely recognized as a standard bearer of culture and artistic history, Hayden received a 2019 Art X Grant and a Creators of Culture Grant for original musical works. She was Artistic Director for a 2018 Knight Arts Foundation Grant encouraging young women in jazz. In 2016 Hayden was honored for her work as a performer and educator with the prestigious Kresge Artist Fellowship- a 1 year fellowship and grant award given an elite group of creative artists. She was the recipient of a 2016 Jazz Hero Award.- a national award given by the Jazz Journalists Association- recognizing people who have made a significant contribution through their artistry and community engagement.

    As an arts advocate, Hayden has served as Grant Panelist for the Detroit Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, Art-Ops and the Highland Park Cultural Commission. She also serves as panelist or consultant for South Arts, Detroit Sound Conservancy, Charles Wright Museum of African American History, the Kresge Foundation, Jazz Education Network and Societie of the Culturally Concerned.

    A passionate advocate for youth music education, Hayden teaches for Michigan State Univ. Community Music School Detroit and is an educator in residence for the Detroit Jazz Festival. As well, she conducts the Next Gen Ensemble- a performing group of some of the areas best young musicians. Hayden holds faculty positions in the Jazz Studies Departments at University of Michigan and Oakland University. Hayden is the Bass instructor for the Geri Allen Jazz Camp, Newark, NJ. , and in 2021 will join the faculty at Centrum Jazz, Port Townsend, WA.

    In her own words:

    "It has been a privilege and a gift to learn and experience music in Detroit. The informal music education here is both thorough and rigorous and includes arranging, composing and production. The mentoring I received from the men and women in this music community was critical to my development as a creative artist. It instilled in me a sense of deep reverence and respect for music traditions, but also a fearlessness and openness about bringing those traditions forward in an original and authentic way. I express this creative openness through the projects and collaborations I engage in."

    In order to follow the current health and safety guidelines, the following measures will be used for these concerts:

    • This will be a one-hour concert event.
    • You will be allowed to enter the backyard beginning 45 minutes before the start time.
    • There will be limited tickets available.
    • Tickets are only available in advance; no ticket sales "at the door"
    • NO food or drink will be provided, although you can bring your own, picnic-style. You must clean up and take your trash with you (don't forget trash bags).
    • NO entering the homes (not even for the bathroom, so please plan accordingly)
    • PLEASE NOTE: COVID-19 guidelines have been updated for the State of Michigan and as such, masks are no longer required for outdoor activity. You may still wear your mask at your own discretion. We have limited seating; if you have your own chairs, please feel free to bring them.
    • Concerts will have a rain date.
